borrow against your BTC at 0% interest, with loans 100% backed by Bitcoin. Instead of selling your stack to access cash, you pledge it as collateral and walk away with instant liquidity , are you a holder who wants to put their Bitcoin to work without ever letting it go?

Want to use stablecoins in Bitcoin DeFi? This guide shows you how to bridge USDT to Rootstock in a few minutes using Stargate, where it arrives as USD₮0 (the canonical omnichain version of Tether on Rootstock), and what you can do with it once it lands.

What is USD₮0 on Rootstock?

USD₮0 is Tether (USDT) deployed across 15+ chains via LayerZero, redeemable 1:1 with USDT. On Rootstock it is the standard dollar stablecoin used across the ecosystem, including the BPD/USD₮0 liquidity pool that backs Money Protocol's Bitcoin-backed stablecoin. Bridging in is the on-ramp to earning yield on Bitcoin's DeFi layer.

What you'll need

You need three things: USDT (or USD₮0) on a supported source chain such as Ethereum or Arbitrum; a self-custodial wallet like MetaMask; and a little gas on your source chain to send the bridge transaction. You can also pick up Rootstock gas (RBTC) during the bridge itself, see Step 4.

Bridge it via Stargate, step by step

Step 1 - Connect your wallet. Go to https://stargate.finance and click Connect Wallet (top right).

Adding Rootstock to your wallet: Network name Rootstock, Chain ID 30, currency RBTC, explorer https://rootstock.blockscout.com . Most wallets can add it automatically from a network directory.

Now put it to work: earn MP

USD₮0 on its own just sits there. Paired with BPD, the Bitcoin-backed stablecoin you can borrow at 0% interest, it goes to work:

Provide liquidity to the BPD/USD₮0 pool on Intrinsic.

Stake your position at https://stake.moneyprotocol.co

Earn MP. Money Protocol's Liquidity Mining Season 1 distributes 2,500,000 MP to liquidity providers over 10 weeks, starting July 6, 2026.

Don't have BPD yet? Borrow it against your BTC at 0% interest. Start at https://www.moneyprotocol.co

FAQ

Is USD₮0 the same as USDT? Yes. It is Tether's omnichain deployment, redeemable 1:1. Bridging USDT via Stargate to Rootstock delivers USD₮0.

How long does it take? Usually minutes, depending on source-chain confirmations.

What does it cost? Source-chain gas plus a small bridge fee, with no liquidity-pool slippage on a 1:1 stable transfer.

Can I bridge back out? Yes. Stargate bridges USD₮0 back to other chains the same way, 1:1.

Is it safe? Stargate (LayerZero) is among the most widely used cross-chain bridges. As always, verify you are on the official site and do your own research.

Step 2 - Choose your source chain and asset. Pick the chain your USDT is on and select USDT or USD₮0 as the asset to transfer.

Step 3 - Set Rootstock as the destination. Select Rootstock as the destination chain, enter the amount, and review the route.

Step 4 - (Optional) Grab some RBTC for gas. Stargate lets you add a little RBTC (Rootstock's gas token) to your transfer via Add or Advanced Settings. Handy if it is your first time on Rootstock.

Step 5 - Confirm and sign. Approve the transaction in your wallet. Your USD₮0 lands on Rootstock shortly after, 1:1 with what you sent.

That's it, you now hold USD₮0 on Rootstock.

Money Protocol is a self-custodial borrowing protocol on Rootstock. Bitcoin holders deposit RBTC as collateral and mint BPD — a USD-pegged stablecoin — at 0% interest. No custodian, no admin key. Modeled on Liquity, adapted for Bitcoin. This blog covers how it works, how to use it, the broader BitcoinFi landscape, and the case for non-custodial dollars backed by Bitcoin.
